Fungia + Barebottom?

Anyone here ever successfully keep a fungia (plate coral) on a barebottom / starboard tank? I have read that some like soft, sandy bottoms .. not sure if it is possible or not.

I have an open brain a short tentical plate and a 14 mo. old goniporia on the bottom of my BB

The are fine look at wild pictures of them and they are mostly on rocks from what i have seen

Hmm well the reason I ask is because on WWM Anthony Calfo states:

Thanks for the quick reply, unfortunately the plate coral didn't survive. I've got real fine gravel substrate not sand do you think this was the cause of the death of the plate coral.
[indeed, yes... gravel and rock can be quite abrasive on a plate corals daily polyp cycles]

Wouldn't starboard have the same effect?
