Fuzzy Lion in Reef?

Hey all my 55 gallon tank is just about finished cycling I believe, been setup for 4 weeks. I'm wanting to do a reef, but I also like lions a lot. My question is how does everyone think a fuzzy dwarf lion would do in a reef tank? I know that I couldn't keep shrimp. I would like to get everyone's opinons here. I just read in Total Fish Hobbyists magazine that a big issue would be the perfect water quality required for corals & lions are dirty fish. I would like to hear some opinons before I do this. BTW, the lion wouldn't be added untill way down the road though.

My friend just got a dwarf lion and has some softies, a torch frag & zoa's. So far so good. She only has to feed it 1 time a week.

If you have an efficient skimmer and you stay on top of water changes it should be fine, my fuzzy dwarf was in a 30g reef for a year when I first got into the hobby and my corals thrived. Just remember any fish or crustaceans he can eat he will try to.

I have a Antennata in my 50G reef, with cleaner shrimp ,some smaller clowns and a six line. He leaves all the fish alone.

On occassion he goes crazy and tries to go for the shrimp from behind or from the side. Usually they spot him and their whiskers stop him from getting closer.

I had 3 cleaners. One got eaten I think. Other 2 have lasted months now despite my lion's naughtiness

Here is a pic of my little fuzzy dwarf that I had in my 125 gal Reef. He was in there for the last year till 2 days ago when I found my cats next to the tank looking at something on the ground. He jumped out and commited sucide. I miss the little guy. When i first put him in the tank, he disappeared for about a month, I was wondering how he was still alive, then I noticed all my peppermints shrimps where gone. Once i started feeding him silvesides and he can out during feeding time he was great. He never messed with my hermits, snails, or other shrimps. Where he sleep during the day was cool because my Coral banded shrimp sat right next to him. ALso i got a cool pic somewhere at home of 1 of my 3 cleaners sitting on him cleaning up the lionfish gills. Really cool pic. Keep them feed 2 - 3 times week with silversides and krill and he will be fine.

OHHHH just for FYI Very Important, I did alot of research into what happens if you ever get stung. I even called posion control, and they had no plan for this type of sting. Eventually I did find the following.

If stung, run the wound under the hottest water you can handle with out burning yourself. The heat will make the posion break down, ( just like a bee sting)

Do not take any alergie medication, i read a story where a guy got stung and the EMT's gave him alergy medicine and it made his condition worse.

From an article at this link http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-11/fm/feature/index.php

Lionfish Sting... What To Do

If a lionfish or scorpionfish ever stings you, the very first thing to do is immerse the wound site in hot, non-scalding water (110-113°F) for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the pain subsides. According to Michaels (1998), applying rapid heat using a hair dryer will also work. The key point is heat; lionfish venom contains many heat labile proteins, and heat will denature these venom proteins, preventing them from spreading in the bloodstream and decreasing the severity of their effects. Do not use boiling hot water; the burn resulting from boiling water will often be worse than the lionfish sting. The most frequent symptoms of a lionfish sting are pain and swelling. However, a few people may have an allergic reaction to lionfish venom and should be cautious if the pain and swelling get worse over a few hours. More detailed information on envenomation may be found in James Fatherree's article located here in this

I would definitely disagree with this, especially with it being based off of just one anecdotal story on the internet (one which I'm not familiar with). According to Auerbach, who is sort of the medical guru of envenomations, you should take something like benadryl if you're stung. It reduces the effects of the toxin.

I was thinking the same thing, but not for sure.

I aheva Volitan Lion in my 120 Reef and he seems to be a model citizen so far.
I feed him Silversides every other day (about 4-5) so he leaves the purple psudo and blue chromis alone :D but I'm sure they'll be missing sooner or later.

I have a dwarf lion in a 30gal. We got a cleaner shrimp after him and since he's still about 2-3 inches we got a shrimp that was too big for him to eat. He pretty much leaves the other fish alone, unless they harass him first.
