Garage as the fish room.

Want to build my next tank (90) into a wall. However, the wall I want to use has the garage on the other side. I can build a small room and close it off with large dbl doors but not sure about the changing temp (north east) and the car fumes.

Anyone have a tank in a wall with the backside in a garage? Anything you would do different

It has been done before. Your best bet would be to create an insulated room preferrably sealed from possible car fumes etc (ie use exterior doors with weather stripping) You may have to be prepared to possibly heat and cool the room and you will have to have some ventilation to the exterior (for humidity etc.).

I was thinking of something very small that would only enclose the tank and sump. To work on anything you would keep the doors open, more like a narrow closet.
Using exterior grade doors and insulation to keep out the car fumes makes sense.

Anybody doing this or something similar??

I just completed my tank with the sump room in the garage. The only difference with mine was that I am pumping my water 35' across my crawl space to the other side of the house!!

A vent fan would be a good idea too. Whether you run the exhaust into your garage or up and out your roof, if you let the fan run 24/7 it'll keep the humidity down. As mentioned before, temp control will be more of a factor too. Good luck.

I have a 55G Sump and Equipment in my garage. I love it except my tools in my toolbox rust LOL. I only keep my motorcycles in the garage and don't start anything in the garage. I was worried about Gas fumes from the tanks of the bikes so I am going to install a small exhaust fan in the wall. The tank has been up and running for about a year and a half and looks great. My garage is downstairs from the main house so It stays pretty cool ( No chiller). I wish you luck!

The room is working out great!! I really like having all the equipment out of the house and in the sump room. It gives the display tank more ability to shine. You don't have the noise of the pumps and water draining. As far as the pumps and drains go, everyhting is picture perfect. The drain from the tank to the sump room is gravity feed and the pump is amble to run wide open. Not necessary to adjust the flow via ball valve. The pump is flowing around 900 gph.
As far as fumes go, no issue. No issue with humidty as well. We actually installed a small AC unit to control the temp. When we were in the 100's, the room was like 77. It was cooler in the sump room than it was in my house!! The room stays around 77 and the water varies from 76 - 78. The AC actually keeps the water cool even with 2 250 watt MH lights!! I think with the AC, we lose more water due to evaporation but with an RO/DI unit, thats a loss worth having.
