Gen @ Kritter Tanks

I'm planning to get a custom tank and would like to get a quote from Gen. For those of you who have used Gen or got a quote, did you go directly or through a LFS. If an LFS, which one? I've tried calling Lucky Ocean for Steve but no one answers the phone. Also I've heard the quote is more if you go direct as oppose to going through the LFS. Is that true? Thanks for the input.

Go with Steve at Lucky Ocean, since you know him, he'll give you a good quote. Sometimes going direct will cost you more as Kritter Tanks will markup more for direct retail sales as to not compete with the LFS. LFS tend to be a better quote as they expect to make money on the supplies you buy with the tank, so they are not counting on making much on the tank itself. Visit Steve, he'll do you right.

I went directly through Gen, he's very helpful, and I really don't think he'll mark it up just going direct. Gen responds quickly too, so I don't see what the problem is not going through Gen?

He does. My aquarium tech and his partner has been working with him a long time and they say he does. Just an example as these percentages is not the actual situation... KT might markup 25% over wholesale when selling retail directly to customers. LFS may only markup 10% as they count on making money on supplies and animals in future purchases or with the tank. :D This is business.

Just know that Gen sometimes has quite a few projects and yours won't always come first, so might take a while.

But yeah Steve is the guy to go through. There's usually 1 (sometimes 2) people working at Lucky Ocean, and those who are in the store have priority to help so sometimes there's no one there to answer the phone

Gen got me my tank a week after I put the order in. In fact it was ready in maybe 5 days, and then I scheduled a delivery 2 days later.

it was blazing speed =) I got lucky? =)

Typical turnaround time is 2-3 weeks, depending on the # of jobs he has lined up.

But if the profit is good, he may push that project up to the front. :D Just kidding, he doesn't do that. :) I believe he was working on your project at the same time as Bonnie's. Then my Aquatech inherited the leftover polycast for his tank when he placed his order. It's the nicest tank I've ever seen Gen put together for my Aquatech.

UCanDoIt, It's interesting that you're talking about your "Aquatech" a lot. Does he taking care all the aquarium stuff for you?? :)

yep, everything. the only thing i do is clean my collection cup on my skimmer every 5-7 days. all my tanks are on automatic feeders, so i don't even have to feed my tank, just sit there in the evenings and enjoy them.

I know... :D Like my occupations reads "It's Not My JOB! UCanDoIt" I can sit there for hours to relax after work and not worry about a single thing, just enjoy them. My reef tank is also setup on dosing everything automatically as well. He setup my tank the same way his display tanks are setup. Completely hands off.

Oh, I do wipe the front & sides of my tank with a magnetic cleaner every 2 -3 days. :D

I did maintain my own tanks over 8 years ago and use to have trouble all the time, nothing lived very long. Nowadays, everything lives and I'm still on the same rate I was when I first started using my Aquatech.

Well mine took a few months, and I know other that have taken just as long. Just cause you "caught" him in a slow period, don't think thats the norm ;)

he knew i'd sell it right away, so he thought it would be some good advertisement for him if I kept bumping for sale threads ;) jk jk
