I recently got a frag and am curious what they need to thrive. Do they prefer higher light or shade? What will help them retain their color best? I have them under a bit of an overhang right now, but not really shaded.

Also, are these fast growers? They look similar to nuke greens, which grew pretty fast for me.

I have mine on the sandbed currently under leds about 30" from the lite source. I got a 3 polyp frag in late october and I already have 7 polyps. The color is awesome where they are currently in my tank.

I'm running a 6 bulb tek light over a 40breeder. I'm only burning 4 bulbs because all 6 are just too much for some of my LPS and other zoas. The light is about 15" above the water

They are easy . I have them in 3 different tanks w/ different lighting and all look and grow great . I don't feed them and every time I look I got more.
Mine do well w/ flow or without.

I had a nice colony growing, and they were pigs, always grabbing large chucks of food from feeding Rods Reef. Once I starting dosing Magnesium to entice my SPS to grow, my colony literally melted away within a week. I had grown it from 1 polyp to over 20. I did manage to get them into a buddies tank and they are growing again, but only saved about 4-5 polyps.

thats interesting. was the mag to high? did you test before adding?

I have mine in a 75g under a 6 bulb t5 fixture. They were on the sand for a month and a half and went from 1 to 3 in that time. I moved them to halfway up and the color is popping. They have only been there a couple of days, less than week so no new growth but they literally had no acclimation period as far as being closed, etc.

No, my Mag was low, 1100, so I was bringing up to 1350-1400 sustain higher Cal and Alk. Once I got it up that high, the polyps started to melt away.

I have kept my CA up high under 250w MH and they have down great. I also kept them high up under T5s and they grew, my buddy who has my backup colonies has them under PCs up high and they grow well for him.

If you feed them, they will grow and grow fast.

Here's a not so great shot of mine when they were in my tank. My buddy is still holding them, and they are growing great. He's even fragged off a few from the colony:

I love mine. I noticed two small buds coming of the 2 large polyps. I hope they spread quickly.
