General rule for coral placement to bring out desired color?

Is there a general rule for placing a coral to retain or bring out its better color? For example, blues goes toward the very top while reds are lower in the tank. Or does placement have to do with the type of species it is?

I don't think it will be that simple. There's too much variance from tank to tank to make general statements. What works up high in one person's tank might bleach from too much (or too little) light in someone else's tank. Even with identical lighting, differences in water clarity can impact light levels. It's very hard to make general rules of thumb in this hobby.

I think after you lose enough coral, you realize that the health of the coral must come first.
And for me, and probably many others, that means leaving corals lower in the tank to start. After you are sure they are not lightening up in your tank, you can start moving them up.
As said, other factors will influence color, mainly good water quality and good water flow.
A heathy coral that grows, will usually give you the best color that the coral can give. After it's healthy, move it up and some cool things could happen. I know some blues that only come out with bright light
