Was wondering how many reefers pick fish for their reef from a specific area...as for me its the Red Sea to the Gulf...thats the only fish in my tank....any input?..............:fish1:
For me, it's more a question of avoiding a few areas. I try to avoid the Philippines and Indonesia. That said, the Red Sea/Indian Ocean, Christmas Island/Australia, Cook islands, Fiji and Hawaii rank high for me.
so it sounds like what the freshwater guys call a "biotope"?
i don't have the restraint to only pick fish from certain regions. it is an awesome setup if you do go that route, but for me it's all about the community.

I try to avoid areas that have been known to collect fishes using cyanide. However if the fish species are only endemic to the areas that have or do use cyanide, then there isn't an alternative.
Collection practices. Cyanide is still fairly widely used. While probably more of a food fishing practice, I've dove many times in the Philippines and heard dynamite. I think both countries are making progress, however they both have work to be done.
