Getting back into it...

Hey all. I took down my 175 bowfront about 4 years ago and its been sitting in my garage since... Now I have time to get back into things again and a 5 year old begging me for fish...LOL...

I kept pretty much everything except my chiller, which I will be buying a new one...

I am running some old school Coralife lights 3 x 250 watt hqi's and 4 x 96 watt power compact actinics. My question is are these still decent lights? Or should I look at getting something a little newer? I am thinking about doing soft corals again, maybe some clams... Still trying to decide there... But as for the tank setup I think my skimmer and pumps should be fine...

Any input here would be greatly appreciated!

Mike.

I was in the same boat you are in when I set up my 265. I had old fashion metal halides and needed a new chiller. I went with 4 ecotech radions and some fans in the canopy. My temperature runs between 77 and 78, dont have a chiller or the noise affiliated with it, and I dont burn my head when I am working in the tank. I have become a big led fan

Can you get the same effects when running led's for growing corals? I know that my MH's always did a really nice job and of course make the tank look amazing...

you can use the lights you have just fine and decide later if you want to upgrade, I would recommend new bulbs of course but there is nothing wrong with starting out with what you have many still use them.
