Getting clown eggs to hatch?

I have a pair of false percs that have been laying eggs now for about 6 months. I have my rotifer cultures up and running well, my whole system set up correctly(I hope). My problem is the last 2 clutches of eggs I cant get to hatch once I remove them from my reef tank and put them in the hatch out tank. My clowns lay on a clay pot religiously. After reading numerous threads on the subject I have done everything correctly. When its about a day or so away from time to hatch I remove about 6 gallons of water from my display and put it in a blacked out 10g tank. No light, a trickle of air flowing on the eggs. The last two have failed to hatch at all.

Im guessing I am getting the proper air wrong or something. Everything else seems to be correct.

How much air should I be using, is there a proper positioning of the clay pot?

Im thinking about just trying to catch the next hatch and harvest them from the tank and then tranfer them.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Are you running your air through an air stone? You want to have small bubbles run up through the eggs. Put the air stone or wood block in the pot. I dont pull the eggs until an hour before they are going to hatch.

I've also found that the tank must be totally dark the night of the hatch - no room lights or anything. I've messed up hatches by just using a tiny pen light too much at the wrong time.

Yeah just an air stone, but im guessing I need to adjust the way it flows or something.

I've had good luck with the air boiling like crazy right across the eggs. I've always thought maybe it's too much but if I don't use it that way the eggs fail to hatch and fungus.

You would think as much air that I've got running over them it would blow the eggs right off but it's been working for about 6 months now.

false perc eggs

false perc eggs

do you really need the bubbles to be successful with the frys?
i know i have a pair of maroon that laid eggs a while back in a 12g tank and i'm not sure now if it still lays eggs since the clowns hide underneath the rocks now a lot and they just usually come out when they feed. i'm thinking of moving them to my 32g soon an just get rid of the 12g tank.
and i know that you have to be up all night to wait for the frys to hatch so you could transfer it to a containment breeding tank that has a temp of 85-90 degree.

I don't think I saw you at the meeting yesterday but you really should get in touch with Dave. His breeding facility was impresive and I'm sure he would have the answer for you. i picked up a pair of false percs from him but was hoping to grab a pair of picassos or platinums. Hit him up on the other board and I'm sure he'd be willing to help you out.

Sorry been busy and forgot to check in. Thanks for the input on the air. Got a few more days till my latest clutch hatches. Might wait until last minute and try some more air. I was concerned that the air was to much.

Noob, no I missed the meeting saturday. Been to daves a couple of times. Great set up he has. He was pretty busy lately so I didnt want to bug him.

Ours laid on the rock so we had to build Wilkersons contraption to catch them, blacked out the tank for 45 minutes and started the fry catcher. Worked like a champ..

Will do it again this coming tuesday...

Just wanted to thank everyone for the info. Cranked up the air on the new clutch of eggs, went out this morning and I have a bunch of babies swimming around the tank.

With any luck I can get them through the next week.

So that batch didnt make it. Didnt cover the heater light, think I had to much air. that was about a month ago.

Round 2

So I had a clutch hatch last night.

I stayed up and kept an eye on them until I could tell most had hatched. Turned down the air a bit. Covered the heater light.

Right now I have a whole lot of larvae swimming around.

Im not gonna get my hopes up this time but keeping my fingers crossed.

Is it normal for them to try and swim to the surface? have a bunch that are sticking there nose towards the surface. I had a few spots that might of been letting light in so I fixed those.

Heres to hoping.
