Getting more fish for my 90

After my clown tang debacle, my nitrates are back down to zero. My fish are feeling better about the event and things are getting back to normal.

I have currently:

1 4" pictilis anthias
1 4" peppermint hogfish
1 2" firefish

I'd really like to get a fish that likes to swim around, so a tang is something I'm interested in. Yeah, I won't get a clown tang....

Yellow tangs to me aren't very attractive, but here is a list of tangs I'm intersted in: (in order of preference)

Whitecheek tang (Acanthurus nigricans)
Yellow eye tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus)
Mimic Lemonpeel tang (Acanthurus pyroferus)

I think the hippo tang is OK, but just so typical and I'd rather not have a fish everyone on the planet has.

Also, I'm considering purchasing a mated pair (is it possible?) of Blue Spotted Jawfishes. I know the firefish is very closely related to the fish and didn't know if that would cause problems or not as well.

Please let me know your experiences and opinions on this. Thanks!

The powder brown tang can be delicate, and a majority of people on here will tell you that a 90 is too small for success. I have no personal experience with theis species, however.

The kole is a great choice. Also look at the tomini..I have one....very nice fish.

Have you considered fairy wrasses? Or any of the swallowtail angels? All pretty much constant open water swimmers.

I frankly would not own jawfish without a lid on my tank. Just my experience/opinion.

I have a canopy on my tank, I'm not worried about jumping fish. :)

I thought I read somewhere that I cannot keep small wrasses with a peppermint hogfish?

Also, thanks SDguy, for the advice. :) I'll take a look at the fish you suggested. I know tangs like to swim and my tank isn't the best for many of them. I want to be prudent when putting a tang in my 90.

Oops, sorry...I was thinking peppermint basslet. My bad. I'm not sure about mixing fairy/flasher wrasses with a hogfish.

I just purchased a tomini tang (flame bristletooth) for my tank and I like it. Took about 3 hours and it was out and about in the tank. The yellow and green on the fins are great looking.

Have you seen the Desjardini Sailfin Tang?

I just saw one of these in person the other day. This is also a very cool looking fish.

One of the biggest zebrasoma tangs. But yes, they are cool looking.

They are a great looking fish but get much too large for a 90. I would look at the Bristletooth Tangs, such as a Kole, Tomini, etc.

Thanks all! :)

So.... not a mention of the whitecheek tang? Is that a bad thing? Or that no one really cares about it? I dont want to get the wrong fish for the tank. I've been through that before.

Also - could someone comment on the compatibility of the blue spot jawfishes as well? Thanks again :)

So for a 90:

1 4" pictilis anthias
1 4" peppermint hogfish
2 2"? blue spot jawfish

plus a tang - of the Ctenochaetus genus? I'm guessing that genus is the "bristletooth" variety?

top.... does anyone see anything wrong with that group of fish for a 90 gallon tank?

also - forgot 1 firefish 2"

thank you

I used to think the same about yellow tangs, until I put one in my tank. They're so cool looking and to me, have expressions on their faces. The complete yellow color really stands out in a tank.

As for hippo tangs, everyone has 'em because they're one of the prettiest fish there are.
