Getting more rock

I want to get about 45 more pound of LR in my tank only have about 40 and since i do not run a skimmer now the extra rock will be good, but how do i cure it. SHould i keep light on it?, should i not change the water i use to cure it. or if i should how many times should i change it and can i use just tap water instead of wasting ro water since it is only being used to cure the rock??.

Okay, curing it.

You don't need or want lights. Use ro/di water if you can (it's not a waste), and you want to be patient for it to fully cycle.

If you allow the ammonia to spike, you will kill off most of the life that is on your rock. To prevent the ammonia spike you need to use heavy skimming and/or frequent water changes, or buy live rock that has already been cured.

As for ro/di water: Using ro/di water is not as critical for curing live rock as it is for top off water, since the contaminants in you water will not be able to accumulate. However, as is always the case in the tap water vs ro/di water debate: tap water will probably work, ro/di water will definately work. Are you willing to take the chances?
