Getting new camera - suggestions?

I am no where near a professional or anything but would like to be able to take some decent shots of my tank. I am planning to purchase a new digital camera with some of my tax refund money. I would appreciate some recommendations as to what I should look for. Thanks!

Get an older dslr. The office depot in my town had a canon xti on clearance the other day for $399.00.

With a DSLR you still need good lenses, which are still very expensive used. The 100mm macro for instance is another $500. This will let you take great shots of your corals...but not necessarily fish. You will need another lens for whatever else you want to shoot. It adds up quickly.

Thanks for the replies. After reading through the "Help pick a camera" thread on here and some additional research on my own including other sources for advice, I just ordered the Canon PowerShot G10 for $390. This promises to be an excellent P&S camera for my needs. Thanks again everyone for replying.
