getting tired of this Algae

Ok, all test look good and are sailfert Alk Nitra Nirtri, phos, alk, ph, cal sg .025are all good but the ph is 7.8 but thats nothing.

its a green glass and brown sand dusting. its only where the lights are and is a light dust. Its even growing on my skimmer cone so im thinking its not flow (sump is lit with standard spiral bulb)

Bulbs are in age check and i had this issue before them as i was thinking it was due to my old light setup.

Tanks is over a year old, I started GFO and carbon dual reactor 3 weeks ago and no change and 1.5 weeks ago i bought a new $300 skimmer and no change at all yet.

I have cheto and marco in the sump both to fine.

Lights are on for 6hrs MH and 8-9hrs ati super blue T5's (on with MH)

All my corals are doing fine - great. I have a flat brain that has seen better days but it due to the angel picking on it i think. I have 5 fish and they get a pinch of pellet food twice a day and every other i switch out for RODS food the size of my pinkie nail for the second feeding.

this algae is here and there and only where the light shine its not slime or hairy nor is it a blanket. the only thing i dont have is a friend with another Pho test kit but i think if it was there i would be consuming it with the skimmer, carbon, gfo. there has been no change since they have been added and i have changed the gfe already. I was getting a green algae of the sump wall from the return water out of the reactor

sry for the long post but im covering it all as im fed up with this four month issue thanks for the solution i know someone knows it.

o i did do the reduced feeding but not the lights out. i cut back but not out.
10gal WC every other week with Kent marine salt

How does your mag look like? I've been reading of people having luck getting rid of some bad stuff by raising their mag. I personally haven't done this, but it's an option if you read more about this

are you using RO water? that really makes a difference. Also if you want your sand nice and clean try getting a sand-sifting goby. My sand has never been whiter!

anyways, hope you get everything figured out!

If you've had it up to here with things being expensive and not working it may be time to try a turf scrubber and watch the algae go bye bye

hours of lights on is as said above, 6hs MH 8hrs Antics.

Mag is unknow as i dont have the test for it, it do wc changes often so i felt its not top on the list?

Ro-Di only unit is 3mo old BRS has gotten alot of my money lately and i still have the darn problem. the wife is getting mad at all i think i need. now its the dang stealth heater needed replaced before i need a new sump too.

This is my problem, the light is on the left...

skimmer is almost 2 weeks old

sorry man didn't see that in the OP! I don't really know what to tell you. The sand-sifting goby is a great way to combat the brown sand. What is your CUC like? maybe invest in some snails/hermits. My CUC dominates most of the algae in my tank.

I would also try to get another reading on the pho test just to be sure. Maybe try to use RO water from a trusted LFS for water changes in the future?

im trying haha, i know how annoying algae is!

i have 0tds in my water, nas snails sand sifter star
i have two tds meters...

im regearing my question What kind is it? Ill find the solution i just dont know what to look for.

diatoms (most likley)
cyno
dino
bubble (No)
hair (no)
something else

but i have the bases covered to cure the diatoms.

btw thanks for trying, i have been at it for months saving because i think i needed this and that but my skimmer was small...

"The question is, why are you using a freshwater air stone in a saltwater aquarium? If anything the increased oxygenation will help drive off CO2 which is used by cyano. Cyano growth is usually a factor of dissolved nutrient levels (ie, phosphate and/or nitrate), lighting and flow." < from another post (going on 8hrs reading/searching and testing)

i do think i have CO2 im my rodi... My problem?

Tested Ro water before di, All 0 but ph 7.4

well, i Just started my 125 with fresh IO salt (5gal bucket) My MG readings after 10 days of operation were at 500. It's supposed to be somewhere between 1300 and 1500.

I'm not happy with this bucket of salt to say the least (if the test kits are right) If the test kits are correct, and I went ahead with this, I would probably have the entire tank covered in algae in about 3 months. It's already starting to cover the glass.

So, I would highly reccomend testing everything, even with the water changes you may not be getting the right ingredients with the salt.

Or test your new salt water when you make it and see if has what it's supposed to for alk, ph, mg, and Ca.

My cyano disappeared in a couple of days when I started dosing vodka. Probably coincident but I have been battling it for the longest time. Even bought that yellow powder (can't remember the name) that was partially effective and the cyano came back with a vengeance.

seeing as it cheap compared to... and cant hurt, i ill get my hands on a mg test. And the CO2 was a shot in the dark. the tank other wise is doing great. Clear water good growth. i have one open brain and hes on a decline but it hasnt got worse or better for him.

There is coraline growing pretty good, past month or so and my visible back glass is 1/4 covered

My cleaner shrimp was starting to grow the algae on him but he was sitting idel and didnt make it through a molt but other then that its the glass and sand. he really didnt clean much to begin with...
