GFO and Carbon

I have my 40B reef set up with just a CPR Bak Pak 2R+ skimmer, live sand and live rock as filtration right now. Within the past couple weeks, I've added 3 zoas, a mushroom and a clove frag as my first corals. I've noticed even before I added the corals I had what I now know to be hair algae, which I believe was caused by detritus I never cleaned off my rocks for 3 months. I'm now cleaning my rocks regularly, and I have one question: now that my tank is a reef and not a FOWLR, how beneficial would having reactors for carbon and GFO be? I'm planning on sticking with soft corals and maybe some LPS, but no SPS. And as my signature says, the tank is sumpless; my stand can't accommodate one because of its design.
