GFO cloudy water everytime I change!?

alright so i'm using BRS GFO and carbon (premium rox)


I rinse about 4 gallons through through the gfo and carbon reactor after changing both out and discard ....

I have a filter sock on the output of the gfo and carbon line yet I still get somewhat cloudy water everytime I change the gfo out!

Gfo is tumbling slowly, carbon is not tumbling at all....

what am I doing wrong here?

So did you ever find out? I'm having same problem.

You may be seeing some calcium precipitation as GFO will cause the calcium to bind more easily with alkalinity.

I still get it every single time.... I end up with a haze in the tank the color of the gfo ... the skimmer ends up getting a good amount of gfo colored residue that needs to be cleaned out after a day. Then all is back to normal.

Not sure what else to do to try and alleviate it from happening.
