GHL Profilix 3 VS Reefkeeper Elite....which to use?

I have been using the Reefkeeper Elite (rke) with net for about a year and it has worked fine. Yesterday I bought another complete system that came with a bunch of high end gadgets, including the Profilix 3 controller. I'm going to consolidate things down into just one tank now (144 half circle) and am unsure which controller I should keep and which I should sell. Anyone here have experience or knowledge of the Profilix 3 and how does it compare to the rke?

This is the GHL Profilux3, and I also got some other GHL controller modules.

I think most that use controllers are familiar with the rke...

Let me know your thoughts folks. Thanks!

You may as well have asked "I drive a honda civic, I bought a bunch stuff that included a BMW 7-series, what should I drive?
The Profilux3 is one of the best controllers you will find and will run circles around the RKE. OTOH, like the little old lady who only needs to go to the grocery store once in a while and doesn't want to spend much for gas and insurance, the RKE may be all you need..
If it were me, I'd be in a hurry to upgrade from the RKE, and having a Profilux sitting in front of me would save me from having to decide between the Apex and Reef Angel.

That's hilarious...I was thinking along those same lines, but am concerned if it is going to be a major pain to learn the new controller. What software is used to configure the setup etc... I am an engineer that does data acquisition and controls programming in a very large testing facility so I am somewhat comfortable with this sort of stuff. But, new software and hardware always has some sort of learning curve and I am just testing the waters to see how steep that curve might be. Honda civic vs BMW 7-series.....that's funny stuff right there.

And once you learn to navigate the keypad on the Profilux you can set up pretty much anythng without the PC.

Does the profilux allow for adjusting color on AI SOL LEDs? The tank also had three of these units, but not the stand alone AI controller. So I am thinking maybe the profilux allows for adjusting color spectrum or intensity? It looks like I'm headed towards the Profilux, and just sell off my Reefkeeper Elite stuff. It really helps to read your responses...

Bump for more info. I was a bit surprised that it only has 6 outlets....still trying to see if it can control color and intensity of the AI Sols

Profilux.

It's strong points are customer support and product reliability. The system is capable of catering to all of what you'd like to have for your reef. I've been using the Profilux for about 5 years now and don't think I'd be looking elsewhere for controllers.

Are there any powerbar options that are not $300 for this thing. I mean $300 for 6 outlets seems crazy compared to the Apex and Reefkeeper powerbars.

And that, my friend, is perhaps the one downside. GHL parts and pieces are generally more costly than the RKE parts or APEX parts. This is truly a case of you get what you pay for. The GHL equipment is generally built with higher end components which in turn cost more to produce. While I am not sure I agree with the Honda/BMW comparison, it does hold true to some extent. The BMW is an excellent automobile, but plenty of people have been driving their Honda around for years and wouldn't replace it with anything else.

I would just look into the programming and the cost of any additional modules or parts that you would need to have the Profilux do everything that you want it to do. Offset the cost by selling the other controller.

I've been driving my RKE (honda) around for a little while now and it's held up fine. lol
But I'm sure if I beat it up and drooled on it all the time it might not work so well after a while. It's like anything, most who take good care of things have them for a long time.

i have a 6 power bar and use 3 sockets and a 4 power bar and use 2 sockets

some stuff doesnt use the power bars
