Giant maxima giving up

I couldnt agree more with what has been said. When something dies in my tank I don't think it's funny. I get upset and reexamin eveything to see how I could have prevented a death. This hobby is not like playing video games. If you keep these animals I hope you can provide the best environment possible to have them thrive in. I am saddened. Good Luck in the future.

YOu guys are getting a little off on what I am talking about. The kind of funny remark is a symbolizm. As to IT's weard or I don't undertand how the star polyps were doing so go. Not it's funny the clam died. I was also ****ed on this whole situation.

It's obvious that calcium is supplimented many other ways. As I said before in previous posts. It was not my clam. It's my brothers. It was an unfortunate death. I can not agree with anyone more about it. Yes it could have been prevented. But it happened. At this time he is working of water changes, and getting the chemestry in the tank better. I am sure with this death, he will be watching his water quality better.

I am sure that it wasn't just the low CA that killed it. Their are many other tests that were not in good quality.

well Ca for a clam is huge. my clam even though i just got him i know will use alot of Ca. now i'm going to have to adjust my drip system to sute the needs of the clam. i'm trying to keep my Ca ate about 400. and on top of that my tank is being converted to SPS so that's more Ca right there. so to answer you'r question why is just Ca a problem is because it was mostlikely the the deciding factor in its death. IMO it was probly the many diffrent peramiters being WAYYYYY OFFFFF that lead to the demise of the clam. i'm sorry for you'r brother's loss perhaps he should just stick wiht hardy fish hardy softies if work is going to get in the way. things like xenia, mushrooms, star polyps, zooanthids and zoanthids. then he can start thinking of more delecate animals like shrimp sea stars, and perhaps another clam. The BIGEST thing ppl in the hobby stress to newbies is not water test water test water test but read read read. nothing is better then doing you'r Homework on a particular animal. IMO you shouldn't look at an animal at the LFS unless you have atleast some basic knowledge on it.

That was well said....In my own tank. I have a small clam. The demands on Ca from it are low. It barely uses any up. Mine is doing great.

from what i hear is that Clams are Ca Cows useing lots of Ca, but that is probly the bigger the clam the higher the demands
