Giorgonian w/fungus

I have a purple gorgonian that has a white fungus on it. It's new to the tank as part of some livestock from TBS.

My understanding is it is a photosynthetic gorgonian. The pylops have only extended a little so far. I have it in moderate flow at the moment.

Is there a dip I can try or should i remove the infected areas? I tried a search but it didn't turn up much.....

here is a shot of it. this shows one spot with the fungus. the same stuff is growing on other parts of it as well. The picture is just under actinics maybe an hour or so after the lights came on.

That appears to be necrotic tissue starting. From the pics it is difficult to see the whole piece but appears to be drooping. I would test all water parameters to make sure everything is where it should be. How old is the piece and where is it located?

I would say if you have had the piece for some time and it was expanding well it is probably water parameters causing it. If you recently acquired the piece then it could be water parameters and/or water flow. IME gorgs like random sweeping flow...getting blasted then residing.

Thanks for the reply.

It is a new piece and it's not drooping. I probably had it in upside down.

I dipped the entire piece using Seachem's Reef Dip for about 10 minutes. I also removed all the fungus at the same time. It was back the next day.

I have fragged it into 3 pieces. I'm hoping that maybe one will make it.

I wasn't able to pick it up at the airport the day it arrived because of the bad weather in the Northeast. I also didn't have any power at home. So it was in the shipping container w/ water for a day longer then normal and my tank was only around 60 degrees at the time. I wasn't able to postpone the shipment which was my fault.

Power came back later the day it was added though.

This and two others were freebies included with a shipment of LR and cleanup crew from TBS. Only the purple sea whip gorgonian is doing well.

I'll try the frags in different flow patterns in the tank. I have 520 w of PC lighting on a 24 in deep tank.

Unfortunately, I'm not feeling too optimistic

Yeah, that's alot of stress for a gorg. I have found through my experience that once a pice starts to receed it tough to save it although not impossible. Keep the flow random yet brisk.
