Glass Cages Reviews Please

I've got two 5 gallon frag tanks from them. Knock on wood......no leaks yet.
Though, the top black trim on one of them has come loose. I'm sure they have better quality on large tanks....or at least I hope so.

I've got a 1/4-29 gallon from them. It holds water, but is not all that high quality. I guess you get what you pay for. I have seen several of their larger tanks and have helped others set them up. They seem to hold water fine, but the silicon work is generally sloppy and even their starphire glass isn't as clear as the standard AGA or Oceanic glass IMO. But they are cheap and for the price, I would still consider them a good deal.

they may have changed what low iron glass they use to use because starphire is a brand of lowiron glass made by ppg. they may have used a cheaper lowiron glass before that wasnt as clear as starphire. someone had just posted on this forum about glasscages having a pic of there starphire glass on there website now and it has the ppg sticker on the glass which is the maker of starphire but im not sure because i havnt seen them in person. they may haved called there older lowiron glass starphire but it might not have truely been starphire if it wasnt that clear. but im not sure this is just what im guessing...

They may have changed their glass. The tank that I got to do a side to side comparison on was built 3-4 years ago. It wasn't a big difference, but the AGA and Oceanic tanks did look a little clearer. The other difference may be that glass cages tends to build their tanks with thicker glass.

i was looking into buying one of there tanks with starphire glass so im hoping thats what they use like they have advertised on there site and not some cheaper low iron glass. ill have to go see some in person before i actually order one to be sure that it really is starphire glass that they use.

I got a 50 from them (glass) that looked pretty good. I'm using it as a sump/fuge, but have talked Jenn into upgrading her 20L to a 50:). I have a few smaller acrylic tanks that weren;t quite as nice in appearance, but they are being used as sumps and fuges, too, so no big deal there. I won a 22 gallon at the frag swap and it looks to be pretty good, too (haven't even pulled the covering off yet;)). I also have a 1/2 15 that I have connected tot he 125 that looks fine, too. No leaks on anything (they are built pretty stout). I'm pricing a 300-350 now (easier than moving the two I have:)).

I got a 240 gallon from them. IT's built like a tank and its been holding water for over a month now. Hope it stays that way.

Yeah, here is a pic from their site. It says "no pricing online yet..." which means to me they recently switched.

When I picked up Angela's tank it seemed to be built like a tank. As all the things you read say, it had sloppy silicone. I think she cleaned up the silicone with a razor blade and 30 minutes of her time. The tank looks great in her house. Once it is full you don't even look for imperfections though. You are too busy looking at whats inside it. As far as silicone goes though at the critter right in front of the cashier they have a 180 gallon oceanic with starphire. The silicone on it looks purty bad.

As Gary stated I wouldn't buy an acrylic tank for a display tank. They just glue acrylic sheets together not bending the corners or anything fancy. They are called GLASScages though.

Are they the nicest people in the world... maybe not. You are buying a tank though at what would be wholesale prices. Is their warranty as long as others ... no. I understand their reasoning behind this though. If a tank is going to fail due to manufacture error it would do it in the first 90 days. Anything after that I would bet it is due to improper leveling and/or a poor stand. They went to a shorter warranty because too many people were screwing up tanks months down the road when they went to move them.

If and when I go large for a tank I will be getting mine from glasscages.

Yea Angelas tank is awesome. Never seen a setup in someones house taller than me  That thing is huge but looks really nice in their room. The stand and canopy looks really good. Maybe one day...

We brought home a 36 x 48 x 25 high tank from the frag swap. I had originally met them in Huntsville to pick it up. I got it in my Suburban, driving down the road, and kept looking at it thru the rear view mirror and suddenly relized that the overflow was on the wrong side. I called and talked to the lady, who called the driver back and arranged for me to turn around and take it back. It is to be viewed on 3 sides, and the overflow is on the 36" side. I thougt that was pretty good customer service, as once it was loaded and signed for, it could have very well been mine. That was our second purchase from them. I find them to be nice enough, just do not go to their facility and expect a fancy show room, as it will not happen. Know what you want and go there to pick it up. They can build anything you want, but they want a drawing in hand.

We just got the tank filled and salt added last night. So far, it looks good. Can't wait to start moving some livestock from the 55 gal into it. The Mark-made soon-to-be live rocks are in place, and the many frags you guys shared at the frag swap can't wait to move from their cramped and crowded living conditions. Everything is still surviving and even growing.

I appreciate all of the input, I sat down with waynesworld and hubby last night and got the tank prepared to order for what I want, glad that is over....now going to order it before the end of the week......I am psyched!!! Thanks all!

Real thick glass, sloppy silicone but a pretty decent tank for the money. Now if money was no big issue I would have went with a oceanic or AGA or something. The tank just doesn't look quite as "factory" nice as a name brand tank to me and the cheap trim on the tank was a joke. Real flimsy but the tank is recessed in the stand and the canopy covers the top trim so its not a big deal to me. It actually popped off on one whole side the other night when I was working with the top off. Beth talked me out of the starfire glass saying it didn't make a difference in her opinion when the tank is filled and I agree my tank looks pretty clear but the look of the above picture is amazingly different! I also would think glass is glass but mine seems to scratch very easy??? Maybe I am just harder on the tank than I was my marineland tank, who knows...
I knew what I wanted and they were very nice but definetly short and to the point. I even had an issue with a big chip that suddenly appeared on a seam the day after we moved it into the house and Tom was very helpfull and even wanted pics emailed to him to see about the integrity of the tank and all. He thinks my kids must have whacked it :( Talk about freaking out when I saw that! But it holds water :) Decent tank for the money but I would have them make the slits in the overflow covers bigger. I had to dremmel mine out after the fact. We are lucky we have such a cheap alternative so close.
