Glass or acrylic?

Need and opinion... Buy a new 180 glass for $750ish... Or a custom 180 acrylic with a coast to coast external overflow with 3 sides blue $1200?? This tank is going in the wall in my game room. Waste to put an acrylic in the wall? I can drill the glass 180 for a coàst to coast internal.

Thanks

Completely your call.

Glass cheaper/heavier/wont scratch/ looks better (imo)

Acrylic: Lighter more expensive, more creative bending and cutting options, scratches easy.

For the in wall im building im going glass. The weight is the only downsid for me, nothing a 12 pack and some pizza to lure some friends over can't fix.

Coke or Pepsi... same deal.

I'm a fan of glass for the simple fact that if you need to clean it in a hurry a razor blade rules your world, while they do make acrylic safe scrapers and what not none of them are anywhere in the same league as a razor blade.

That said it's not a waste to put acrylic in wall either. I wouldn't go with 3 sides blue, maybe put an external blue sheet up if you want that, for the simple fact that 1) when you're working behind the tank being able to see through the sides/back is nice, and 2) it will get covered in coraline algae, so why bother with blue, either wait and give it time and have a purple wall, or call it maintenance and clean those walls too when you want.

External overflow certainly is nice, but only if it's done right, if it's simply a couple round holes drilled on the inside that goes to a box on the outside that isn't done right. Also look into something like the Synergy Reef overflow box, it's a bit of a pricey option, but it is very low profile in the tank.

Thanks for the response... Well I just bought my tanks... Glass undrilled 180g DT... and a glass 125g undrilled for the sump! LFS had them on sale.. Great deal buying both at once, cheaper then the custom acrylic I was looking to buy.

Glass or acrylic?

I have glass now for a 125 and it CAN scratch.

I was reluctant to buy an acrylic tank. But guess what? It's way clearer and the minor blems and scratches come right off with some wet sanding and acrylic polish. I'm happy I have acrylic now for my new build. So much lighter too
