Glass Suction Cup Handles??

Does anyone know where to rent the heavy duty glass suction cup handle things used for moving large pieces of glass (AKA reef tanks)?

We rented some from the rental place at Lowes. They had to have all the stores in the Houston area ship what they had to one location for me to have enough. We also bought some of the double suction cup type from Harbor Freight for $7.50 a handle and in the end we moved the tank from the hydrolic lift tables to the stand just with those since I did not go back and rent the others again. It works out cheaper to buy the ones from harbor freight if you only need 6 or 8 of them.

These? Only $4 now.

The tank is around 600 lbs.
Suction cup rated at 80 lbs each.
4 guys with 2 suction cups each would be 120 lbs per guy. 6 x 80lb = 640 lbs rating on all the suction cups. We moved it in without any cups but it was scary especially trying to sit it on the ground orstand without breaking your fingers.

What do yo think? Will these handle moving 600 lbs off the stand and 25 feet to the truck?

Those do not hold or at least they did not when we were trying to lift my 600 gallon tank. They pull off.

Texas, do you remember how many of the double cup handles you used to lift your 600 gallon tank and how many guys helped out? Do you happen to remember how much your tank weighed dry?

My tank is 220 gallons, 3/4" glass bottom and 1/2" glass sides and eurobracing. The freight slip, if I remember correctly, said the tank weighed about 650 lbs including the crate.

We were told the tank weighted 1000 pounds but my guess is it was more than that. When we went to pick it up it took 8 people to drag it off of the truck and slide it from the lift gate into my horse trailer.

Luckly we bought a modular home so were able to use a forklift to put it in the house as it came in before the 2 sections were put together. It took 10 men, not all large, to move it from the lift tables to the stand. The tank is 130" X 37.5" X 30". I also have a 220 reef tank made by Marineland and we were able to carry that one in to our old house easily with 6 smallish people. We will probably use the same number when that tank moves to the new house. It all depends on how big and strong your helpers are. I would have at least one handle for ever person. Two might be ideal but not necessary. On the final move of the 600 onto the stand each man had one handle of the type with two suction cups.

Good luck and remember it is always better to have more people than you need than not enough. Also if you buy more handles than you need they are easily returned to Harbor Freight as long as you have your receipt.
