Glueing Rock Frags...

I have an acro frag thats on a piece of LR Rubble. I used almost an entire bottle of GEL on it and I still cant keep it secure. What other underwater epoxy/glue can be used with non-toxic success?

Hey Sindjin,
I have seen an epoxy that is sold here in fish stores that works. It's like a putty. I believe it has been said not to use it to secure frags to rocks but works well for what you are needing it for. It comes in a tube about 6 inches long and an inch in diameter. Send me a pm if you have trouble finding it and I'll get some to you.

Take the frag and dab off excess water from the base of the rock where attachment will occur.

Apply a small amount of gel super glue to the attachment point.

Press a small amount of two part epoxy ( aquarium safe type that has already been kneaded/mixed) onto the gel super glue.

While holding it upside down with the now attached epoxy ball facing up make a small indentation in the epoxy ball. Fill this indentation with gel super glue. While still holding it upside down dip it underwater to allow a skin to form over the super glue.
Now you can press it into a section of live rock in the aquarium and it allow to cure. This method works very well.

Thanks, Zukihara!
Im heading to the LFS today... I'll look for some!
A puddy is just what I need!

Dave,

Sounds like a good method. I could try that if I dont find the other stuff. Thanks!

The 'other stuff' is a two part epoxy and it is what I use.

Some of them are OK as plenty of people have used them but I don't know the OK ones by name.

I use AquaStik.

Be aware that some of these epoxies can cause excess skimmer foaming temporarily.
