I went to St Lucia last year. Great vacation spot, awesome rainforest, volcano, small cities... I highly recommend it as a vacation spot, however, I do not think it has great reefs. I am sure you will still have some great dives, but do not expect anything like Mexico.
I loved St Lucia. I went to Sandals Grande, so all of the diving/snorkeling were taking care of. I heard good things about http://www.scubastevesdiving.com/ though. He was very straight forward and offered great advice. I was worried about Sandals scuba quality, but he put my concerns to rest even though he lost some revenue.
