going sexual

What is so bad about caulpera going sexual ans any thing else for that matter.

I'm sure others on this forum are going to know alot more about this than me....but I had a bunch of caulerpa in my sump and was worried about this same thing. I've been doing some reading and from what I understand, when it "goes sexual", it pretty much disintegrates and puts all the nitrates and junk it has been absorbing back into your tank in one concentrated blast, so to speak. I also heard that this can be prevented by keeping lights on it 24/7. It scares me so I took it out of the sump.

The gametes use up the dissolved oxygen in the water and can cause fish to suffocate.
