Going with no overflow box question?

I currently have a 90 gallon tank and it has the built in mega overflow box. I am thinking about getting a new tank and selling mine because I have to take out a plenum and the tank has some scratches and I just want to start over. A Fish store here is telling me the way to go is with no overflow and just drill 2 holes in the back of the aquarium. Looks like a slick way to go because there won't be that ugly big overflow box taking up space. What are the pros and cons of doing it this way?

Well if the holes are mounted high then they are essentially overflows. If mounted lower then they will back siphon the water in a power outage.

you could buy or or have a small overflow box built, like mine.

I have a street elbow inside the overflow. and i'm using the durso setup externally, with slow flow.
