Gold Banded Maroon Clownfish

Hi,

I just got a pair of Gold Banded Maroon Clownfish for my new 50 gallon Reef tank. Since these are my first mairne fish I wanted to make sure that there behavior is ok.

They are so far the only fish in the tank and my water is 0 on all the nasties like Nitrate and that. My concern is that I do not have a Anemones yet and they seem to be swimming constantly at the top of the tank. Is this ok? They seem to look healthy enough just I thought from what I have read they would hang around the bottom of the tank. They have been in the tank for about 20 hours now.

They will not only be the first fish in your tank, but could even be the last ones

Premans gets rather big and specially when haveing eggs they are really nasty. Hope you got the correct anemone for them

Yes I relise they can get a bit angro. But I really love these fish and got a ood deal on them.

I have yet to get anenome but which one would you reccommend for beginner for these fish?

The BTA would be a good choice. My maroon dove into mine withing a hour of being introduced to the tank. BTA's are one of the easier ones to keep. I would make sure that your tank is stable and running for about 4 months before adding one first. You will also need a lighting upgrade from the usual flourecents that come with the tank.

Your fish will move lower in the water column once they get adjusted. Could take up to a week.

Well they are starting to settle in now I think. They are eating and they are also now exploring the live rock. The tank has been up and running for nearlly 2 months now, so I am quite happy to wait a little longer. I have a T5 light setup that is giving me around 4 watts per gallon, so I hope this will be enought for a anonome.

wpg is not how you jugde what you can keep, it is a very complicated. It is the penatration. But the T-5's should be fine, but i would suggest lps corals before an anemone. although my gsm's pefer a clump of hair algae attached to my heater.

Sorry what is lps. Are these Leathers?

lps stands for large polyp stoney. These are corals like plates, hammers, frogspawns, ect., ect....

soft corals also work. I've heard of them hosting hairy mushrooms, gsp, and alot host toadstool leathers.

Mine are getting on my nerves alittle, because, I've speant over $200 in hosts for them and never took one though i8 just add an umbrella leather which i think they will take to.

I have been told that they are both. Some are Captive bread and some are caught in the wild. I think mine are captive bread as they had quite a few GSM where I got mine from and they where all the same size.

I think you love the GSM! I am so happy with mine and glad I got them. They would be one of my favriot Marine fish.
