Goliath Grouper Eats 4ft Shark

Wow.

Years back I was at the Tarpon Springs aquarium and they had a problem with disappearing sharks. Then they saw the Goliath with a shark tail sticking our of its mouth one day.

There is well know barge that is around 30 miles West from Anna Maira, is full of Goliath Groupers.

We was using live bar jack (14 inches) as bait. The biggest one was around 200 lbs that we could bring to the boat. Could not stop them from breaking the line on the barge, that was two guys holding the rod.

Our poles are star rods and 30t international reels, with 120# carbon line.

There was some 500 lbs down there, for those that never hooked one.
Is like attaching your line to a truck going around 5 miles, crazy fishing.

I have dived that barge. And I have pics of it. Will look later for them. I also dove the box cars just to the south of the barge. Nice dives. Just watch out when you hear the thumping.

Goliaths are no joke. Had one bend an old shakespeare fiberglass unlimited rod over like it was absolute child's play.

We had to build a custom rod at Crazyeyes dads shop just for doing the charters that want to unload on these bad boys, closest spot we have is in about 22' deep water NW of Johns Pass 250lbs up to 550lbs in that shallow of water makes for one hell of a quick pull. Nothing better than shark fishing though. Love it!

We were snorkeling down in the FL Keys when a large grouper decided to swim under my 5 year old daughter. It kept getting closer so I pulled her to me tight to make us look larger. The grouper followed us all the back to the boat and then was hanging out under our boat.
Here a picture. Nothing to really compare the size to but I couldn't wrap my arms around it.

that is still a huge fish! There was a massive one hanging out underneath our boat when we were snorkeling at Looe Key and needless to say it made me extremely nervous as well hahaha
