Good afternoon my fellow Sps Reefers i have a few questions....

Chaotic Reefer4u

♥Acropora Aficionado♥
Im starting up a 20g. Truvu Aquasystem filtration is already built onto the tank with drip trays. Im going to have a 96w. Quad pc. Retrofit lighting kit for the setup no substrate /sand bed strictly Bare bottom! live rock and good flow for Sps one hydor 425 power head for water movement and the return from the tank filtration setup. Ok fellow Sps Reefers is there any type of Sps corals i can keep in this setup? looking forward to some feedback! thanks. . .i can't seem to post a picture it says upload file failed. . .:uhoh3:Im also going to have a seaclone 100 protein skimmer hanging over the back.

Make sure you use plenty of bioballs in the drip tray. The black ones work the best, but the blue ones will get the job done in a pinch.

can i get some seasoned Sps Reefers to respond please. . .

No bioballs strictly live rock for filtration and protein skimmer!

if you keep the balance [meaning LOW bioload fish wise] you should be good to go :)

dont use bioballs .... I think gbru was joking ?

the skimmer is a bit ifffy ... not that efifcient, and lighting with PC will not give you the same color under T5. but it will work for most SPS.

Id advice you to stay away from smooth skinned acros, and acros in general at first, stick to monti caps, monti digitata, different hystrix, some stlopora and pocilopora could work too.

remember key is stability, so keep KH and CA++ as stable as possible :) its harder in a small system to keep them stable.

Again, I apologize.

As previously mentioned, montipora (cap, digitata), birdsnest (seriatopora sp.) and stylophora are all relatively undemanding SPS.

No offence taken my reefing friend i was just posting this because i GOT this setup practically given to me and just wanted to make sure about the Sps again no worries gbru!

I ran a 10g with a quad 50/50 96w PC, sand bed with a plenum and an aqua 50 HOB with carbon, 20# LR, coupled with weekly 1g water changes, for over 10yrs. I had a pair of A. Ocellaris in that tank. I've never really seen ricordea look as good too. For SPS I had an encrusting red monti which took off and had great color, a green digi which looked good but grew slow, and a leng sy cap which languished and never really took. Good luck.

I would look into a good LED unit or DIY one. PC lighting is only good for some sps. All the nice millis, acros and montis will need better lighting.
