In a bit of a dillema, I have two fish on order with a supplier which are difficult to get here locally. A Magnificent Foxface and a Scribbled Rabbitfish (siganus doliatus). The suppplier has refrained shipping for the last month as the doliatus was not eating when it arrived from the exporter. (This really impressed me as they seem to really care for the wellfare of the livestock).
This week, the doliatus is now feeding well but there is some concern as the foxface is eating well but appears quite skinny.
I understand through reading several articles/websites that this may be an indicator of internal parasites and is not uncommon with rabbitfishes. Is this the case? What course of treatment is recommended?
I have a 20 long set-up as a QT right now. It is drilled with a corner overflow and I have set it with a constant drip from my display at a rate of approximately 1 gal/day with the overflow going right down the drain. Filtration is a Fluval 3 that was running in my main sump for the last month. Several pieces of LR as well as some free floating macro and nuisance algaes were also added to give them something to browse on.
I had planned on QTing the fish for a min. 4 weeks, Once eating in the QT, I was thinking of performing a PraziPro treatment. Will this be effective for internal parasites, or should I look at a shotgun approach and start with the PraziPro and follow that with a medicated food?
The other option is to not accept these fish at all and possibly wait another year for both to be available at the same time (I want them introduced simultaneously into the DT). Are ther other things I should look out for?
Sorry for the long-winded post but looking for some good advice and opinions.
