Has anyone read Clownfishes by Joyce D. Wilkerson? If so is it worth getting? It was recommended on another forum. I am interrested in the clowns and would eventually like to breed them if I can.

I read back a few months back on our forums and saw a couple of reccomendations for good reef books. Unfortunatly I did not write them down and the search function on here isn't working for me.

So can anyone reccoment any good current books on reef keeping?

Thanks,
Tracy

I have Wilkerson's Clownfish book and recommend it highly. If you're thinking about raising clowns, it is a must read. There are a lot of good resources here on RC for that in the fish breeding and clownfish/anemone forums, too.

The ones I have that have been helpful are:

"The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael Paletta is a good, short, easy to read handbook.

"The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert Fenner is another good one.

"Natural Reef Aquariums" by John Tullock is another favorite that I've referred to often.

For corals, I have Eric Borneman's book, "Aquarium Corals"

There's an invert book I love .... I need to go pull that out and see what it is.

Definitely a good choice to read up before you get started.

Good Luck!

If you like reading ,and don't mind dropping some coinage , I feel that "The Reef Aquarium, Vol 1-3" by Julian Sprung and Charles Delbeek are must haves for the aquarist that likes to read. If I was only limited to one set of books , those would be the ones. IMO one could become a very competent to very good reef aquarist with using just those three volumes as a guide.

Thanks for reminding me about those, Dave.

I have volumes 1 and 2. They are heavier reading and I hate to admit it but I've just used them as a go to resource for a specific question and haven't made it through really reading either of them. Now I'm inspired to pull them out and try again.

Another lighter fare book, but with good information and great pictures is "Reef Invertibrates" by Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner.

Maybe we should start a reef club libarary. I'll bet a lot of us all have these same books.
