I have a friend who's selling me his squamosa clam it's 10ins and it has mushrooms on its shell really pretty purple mushrooms

He wants $750 is that a good price? The squamosas mantle is pink with purple and blue spots

whether or not it is a good deal is a very subjective judgement to make.

for me, no absolutely not. i wouldn't pay that much for a clam, except for maybe a nice T. gigas.

but it's your call. if you look at that clam and think "worth it" then by all means get it! i know most of my friends think i'm off my rocker for paying $50+ for little fuzzy sticks glued to rocks. i beg to differ.

with this hobby, like most, beauty and value are in the eye of the beholder.

Way too high imo unless its something you really want .. I paid 300 for a 14 inch one a few days ago and felt it was a little high nut I wanted it and it was tank raised the last 6 years. My squamosa is purplish with blue spots..

For the sake of argument, I'll say it's way too high: Consider that a very plain, but large, squamosa can be had for as little as $60. That was mine, an 8-incher, and it's still going after three years.

Add a really great color variation, and maybe $200 or so to start? Then consider that at 10 inches, your acquaintance is perhaps trying to make room in his tank. Clams that large take up space, and suck up calcium. Why does he want to sell? Sight unseen, I wouldn't offer more than $250.

If you have a picture, it would be much easier to value it. In general, a clam that size wouldnt cost that much even with some mushrooms on it. I say lose that friend.
