Good Growth??

I have a 90g that has been up for about 6 months and I have a couple before and after of some of my first SPS frags that I put in. I was curious if these are on target as far as expected growth in a 3 1/2 mo period?? These frags started at about 1 1/2-2".

Sorry for the crappy pics though...I need to invest in a macro lense camera some day.

Here are some before and after pics...

i coudnt get anywhere close to that kinda growth in almost a year, so youre doing awesome for 6 mos. i have a 90g (48X24X18) with 2X150W MH. so, whats your light setup like?

Very good growth, IMO.
What lights are you running? Its a nice purple in the pics, does it look like that for real?

Thank you all for the responses. That's good to hear!! It seemed like they have done pretty well...and no, I not trying to make anyone jealous..:), but after seeing some of these TOTM colonies and the stories of extreme growth rates, I began to wonder if my SPS frags were in line with others reefers.

I have recently posted a build/history thread in the Discussion Forum during the past 5 months of my tanks life with lots of pics of the progress in case anyone is interested in...:reading:

As far as lighting, I run a 6 bulb 54w-T5 with 2 different fixtures. As described in my thread, my tank came as package with stand and a 4 bulb light fixture (New Wave 44 by Sunlight Supply). I wanted 6 bulbs so I got a Nova Extrm 2 bulb to act as the dusk/dawn since it was the only fixture to fit under my canopy with the New Wave. I use all ATI & KZ bulbs (B+;Fiji;NG;SB). I am trying to find a local club or LFS that may have a PAR meter to see what readings I'm getting under these fixtures...I am really curious. At some point I will prob upgrade to an ATI fixure and suppliment with Actinic LED's.

The color of the pink/purple birdsnest is pretty damn close to the ACTUAL color in real life. (I really wish I had one of those macro lense cameras to capture the amazing close ups). That coral is placed almost directly under the FIJI bulb, which may help. The green birdsnest actually lost alot of its neon green color, but now has almost 'neon snowflake' (if there is such a color) looking polyps now...pretty cool. Both corals are placed about mid tank level.

I don't dose anything but Limewater in my ATO and that is for pH issues. I guest the bonus with the Limewater is that my CA & Alk levels are very stable. The salt I use is pretty strong and has maintained all of the major parameter levels between water changes.

Really nice color and growth! I don't think you have anything to worry about.

IMO: When comparing to other corals/tanks consider the size factor too, frags only have so many growing points and must generate more, with their small size the growth is conspicuous--big colonies just get bigger. It's like trees (maybe-this is a loose metaphor): small trees seem to grow more slowly since they are spindly and only have 2-3 branches for new growth to grow from.

Looks good so far to me! Very impresive!

I'd be very interested in hearing the PAR readings for your tank. I have a thread about SPS PAR readings now so I'm always curious. I'm also setting up a tank and was thinking of T5's and with your great corals as proof I might just do so!

Keep up the good work!
