good macro for EOS

I have a digital rebel and would love to get a decent macro for close-ups. I have the 18-55 canon it came with. What can get me in closer? I have a 100-300mm sigma as well but thats just to big and slow for tank use. Or is it better to actually "zoom" in on your corals. It's hard to get in close in the middle of a 180g tank. Maybe just a better lense would produce better photos?

There are many good macro lenses, but my favorite is still the Canon Ef 100mm f/2.7 Macro.

Couldnt agree more with MCary... you can get them now for about 425 with free shipping on certain sites. They truly are a remarkable lens if ya serious about getting those crisp pics.

I use the sigma 105mm EX lense, the only thing I don't like
is that it doesn't focus internally. its a great lense though check out my shrimp I just posted I used the lense for that pic

Canon Ef 100mm f/2.7 Macro. I really like mine.

The Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro is considered by many to be one of the sharpest lens Canon makes. As far as sharpness goes, the 300mm 2.8 is probably sharper, buts its not a macro, and its not cheap! (4k to 5k!). Plus its a whale of a lens..

I think you would be quite pleased with the 100mm.

i use the same, 100mm macro, just took some pics with it to give you an idea, however im by no means good at it so dont blame the lens haha

I either hit the wrong key, or my f-stops are really messed up. Yeah mines a 2.8, hit the wrong key. Now don't get confused between close ups and Macro, all macros are closeups but not all closeups are macros. For fish, I like my 50mm f/1.4 better. I can get really nice closeup shots in low light. The 1.4 costs about $250 but the 50mm 1.8 only costs $75 and also works well for moving fish in low light.

The 100mm 2.8 can be frustrating when you first start. Wide open the DOF is rediculously shallow. But at f8-f11 its really sweet.
