good way to treat ich?

I have two fish showing signs of ich in my tank. a vlamingii (sp) tang, and a watchman goby. I also have a starry blenny, and two clowns. my display is a 135gl with inverts and coral so treatment there is out. I do have a 10 gallon setup and a 55 that needs setup. I was thinking of filling the 10 with water from my display and putting the goby (small) and the tang (very small one maybe 3") in there and treating with copper. then I can start setting up the 55, which will probably take the rest of the week. then at the end of the week I wanted to put all the fish including the goby and tang in the 55 and starting hyposalinity. will this work or no?

There is really no good way to treat ich once you have allowed it to breakout in a DT. You can try to manage and struggle in a bad situation, however.

The greatest difficult is in ridding a QT of ammonia. You cannot just now use DT water and expect to solve this problem. You should have done so five weeks ago and cycle the medium for QT. Using DT water is a good way to seed the medium, but just that; the cycle for the medium still takes time.

You can do water change in QT and do the best to can to rob bacteria from DT, by using a medium to filter in DT for many days. Sometimes you can collect meager amount of bacteria, better than none at all.

Are all of your fish eating and swimming ok? If so, I'd wait til you get the 55 gallon setup. The goby and tang may get too stressed out. You may want to throw in some filter pads in your DT or sump now to get some nitrification bacteria built up. Good luck with treatment.

does it matter if theres carbon in the filter pads? I'll throw them in the sump to try and get some bacteria in them.
IF the bacteria in the filter is needed, I guess you can't ever change out the filter. I was under the impression the nitrification bacteria was in the water and it would then seed in the filter. I guess I was wrong on that one
I also thought that if there was an ich outbreak in your display tank, you could remove all the fish and treat them and let the display tank just sit for 6 to 8 weeks and the ich would die off from not having any thing to live on. is that right or is the display infested forever?

You cannot have activated carbon in the medium in QT if you use copper; you can if you use hypo.

You eradicate ich with active treatment of fish for 8 or more weeks in QT and allowing the DT to be completely fishless for th esame duration.

8 weeks is long if you do not have enough nitrification in QT.

Use the 55 for a QT and add the fish. Next get Seachems Stabliltiy to start the cycle process and this will keep the ammonia in check. Follow the directions for Stability and you should be fine. Also, Stabiltiy and Cupramine together is ok...according to Seachem.
