That's pretty flipping sweet man!

Right!!! :-)

Very cool but nothing beats the real thing, I'm diving in Jurassic park this weekend, 80 miles west of Pinellas.

I agree. I've done a lot of snorkeling in the keys, but recently been researching scuba. I've had a few friends recently get certified through Macs with a Groupon. I'm considering going that route. Any suggestions?

I don't know if my guy is still doing it but i will ask him, best shop around is jims right across from baypines va. Top notch and super helpful, i'm sure they could point you in a good direction if my guy is out of the certification biz.

Open water isn't too bad. As long as you aren't an idiot you can get certified almost anywhere for that and you'll be fine. Definitely one of the coolest things you can do, IMO.

My dad use to keep his boat at the small marina right behind the Harbor lights club, and we always went into that dive shop, definitely one of the nicer dive shops around imo.

Also CuzzA, if you do get into scuba I have a pretty nice full reg setup w/dive computer I'd sell. It's only been used for a handful of dives, but still might want to have it checked out and serviced because it's been some time since it was used.

Realistically anywhere you can get certified will be good enough to teach you the basics and Mac's will give you that at a pretty good price with the groupon deal.

Jim's dive shop is one of the more notable shops in the area, a bunch of my friends have been certified there. They also do a special price every once in a while. Pretty sure they have you do your deep water dive in a sinkhole up in hudson that is about 80+ feet deep and the vis is about 6" lmao.

Suncoast dive center off Seminole Blvd just south of 54th ave in Seminole (about a 3 minute car ride from Jim's) I've been in the private charter business working the boat with my pop since I was as young as my son is now and know a bunch of these guys first hand and can tell you for sure that Chad Campbell is by far the best around.

Not sure about any of the guys close to where you live, so I can't help there.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll definitely call some of the places you guys mentioned. I'm going to do this. My neighbor across the street from me dives and I'm always really freaking jealous of the lobster, spearfishing and photos they bring back. Gotta do it. You only live once, right!?!?

Although this might sound dumb, but someone needs to start designing some cooler wetsuits. Lol. I mean who wants to look like a seal in their pics and vids? Yeah, they're cute and all, but pretty ugly. Perhaps some elbow tassels and a mohawk hood or horns... I'll sport some horns. Maybe just a batman wet suit is all that's needed. I would buy a batman wetsuit, cape and all. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it's Friday and the beer tastes good. Cheers.

They have Camo wetsuits designed specifically for spearfishing.

I can't say enough good things about Macs. One of my best friends is a scuba instructor there. PM me if you want any more info.

I'd definitely recommend getting certified. Even if you don't plan on going all the time it is a great option to have.
