Gorgonian Forest

I'm setting up a 30g gorgonian forest with photosynthetic and nonphotosynthetic varieties together. Most sources say that the photosynthetic ones require "moderate lighting" which I take as about 2 watts per gallon. Is this adequate for photosynthetic gorgonians?

2wpg sounds way low to me...

That seems low to me too....I have a 150W MH over my 29G Floribbean tank, with many photosynthetic gorgonians.

Having said that, wpg is a fairly crude measure, and since you'll be feeding the tank heavily for the non-photosynthetic gorgs, the additional food may make up for the lack of light for the photosynthetic ones.

wpg is absolutely no way to identify what type of lighting your corals will need. Depth of tank, type of coral and output, intensity, PAR and wattage of light are what you need to consider.

Maybe for SPS....absolutely unnecessary for softies.
