Got a 24 AP

Well, I have a 24 gallon aquapod. Measures are 20 x 17 x 20 high. It does not have a lid on it. It has a "hang-over-top" fixture so heat won't be a problem. I picked up a 20 pound bag of black moon sand also. The 24 AP's stock pump is a 290 gph, running the tank around 12x turnover. I will not be running the foam or bio-ball filtration it comes with. 2 horse should be OK in this size tank, correct?

Can horses be housed with any other type of fish? Will a temp of 75 degrees be too warm for reidis?

What type of coral, if any, are safe with the horses? I know SPS are out... just curious on the softies. Mushrooms and zoas would be alright?

If anyone has a list of good macro algaes that horses like, please list them :)

Last question - How long should the tank be set-up prior to the introduction of the horses?

What kind of sh were you thinking of?
Height of tank and flow tolerance might be a factor as some sh get much bigger and would need more height.

some say mushrooms and zoos are ok, I personally keep them in my coral tank and out of my sh tank, in my humble opinion, anything that puts out a slime coat is releasing something to say bug off and could be an irritant to sh.

sorry, I couldn't give you specifics on different species but I am sure someone more knowledgable will chime in for you

Good luck

sorry missed your last 2 questions

macro - just about anything they can latch onto - somewhere on here is a good list with some links to retailers. I started out with a planted tank but honestly found that the plants just needed constant thinning and trapped alot of debris

when to add sh - you def. want to be out of your set-up cycle and honestly the longer the better gives a chance for copepods to get a head start. I honestly had my tank up and running for 6 months before I added a sh - gave me time to get my clean-up crew established and fine tune my system - like monitoring temp swings in the summer with lights on, etc.

I have a pipefish in an AP 12 with the sunpod and glass top over it. I aslo have the AP 24 with the sunpod and no glas top. I know they are very closely related and it basically looks like a seahoarse with a tube body. I wouldn't keep him in my 24 since he would just make a meal for something much bigger than him. In my 12 housed with my perc clown he seems fine. I see him waiting by my LR and just nips at whatever come out of them until he is full and like to crash out beneath my brain coral. I keep LPS, SPS, shrooms and zoas in this tank and he doesn't bother anything other than what comes out the LR and sanbed.
