Got a Honeymoon to plan! Any Ideas???

So I popped the big question!

On the up side, I have almost a year to plan a &#($ of a vacation! :D

So lets hear it....
WHERE TO?

Well, since you're in Savannah, first you can come north 40 minutes and visit me in Beaufort...

Then you can hit the Florida Keys. I'd do the Jules Undersea Lodge: http://www.jul.com/

...Or possibly a cruise with diving in the Bahamas. They're pretty inexpensive at the moment, which is to say that you guys would get a lot more honeymoon for your buck. :)

A little up the food chain is a custom liveaboard charter in Bermuda: http://www.bermudaiv.com

...And up from there I would say is the South Pacific... Like Truk, Palau, or Fiji.

How much diving do you want to do?

I spent my honeymoon on St. Lucia last summer. We stayed at one of the sandals and had a great time. Diving is included in the cost of the stay. If i remember correctly, they do a two tank trip in the morning and a single tank in the afternoon. The diving was pretty good, we only got between 40-50 minutes on each dive since they're guided dives, but it wasn't too bad.

If you're worried more about diving than being pampered you might consider bonaire. Basically unlimited shore diving, just rent a truck and drive to one of the 70 or sites on the island.

Soufreire St. Lucia. Stay at Ladera if you like outdoor luxury living and the best views. Jade Mountain would be the other resort to consider, especially if you want ac. Good diving and snorkeling and a beautiful spot for a honeymoon. We went for ours and again for our 1st anniversary. Congrats!

It depends on: your budget, how much diving and what kind, whether you want primarily diving or diving as just one activity. As SeaJayInSC says, there are lots of options, it just depends.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Sorry I haven't responded in a while. I have really just started to try to make a real plan for this honeymoon. I am simply overwhelmed! There are SO many options. I would love to go to the South Pacific but unfortunately its just not in my budget right now. So the Caribbean, or possibly even Cabo. I love to dive and fish but my fiance is new to both activities. She isn't certified and probably wont be before we are married. She is more than willing to go on the boat with me though and snorkel while I dive. We don't want the entire trip to be about diving and fishing though. Id probably say just one day of diving and one day of fishing, a few lazy days and then a few other days to go sightseeing and hang with the locals.

I'm going to look at all of your suggestions and see what sparks my interest. Thanks again for the suggestions and if anyone has anything else to add I'm all ears.

Cheers

RW

My wife and I just got back from Sandals Halcyon in St. Lucia. Two single tank boat dives included every day for nondivers except on Sunday which is one dive. Leave around 830 and get back around 1230. We brought our own gear but gear is included. Great dive sites and can't beat the all inclusive of Sandals. Dives last until one person in the group gets down to about 1000 PSI which kinda irritated me. So most dives were in the 45 min range. 1st dive is usually to around 70ft and on a wall drift diving. 2nd dive is no deaper that 40ft and usually good. Visibility is amazing and sealife is great and the reef is pretty healthy. Halcyon is the smallest resort of the Sandals on the island and we loved that there weren't hundreds of people there making it more intimate. Plus Sandals is having some great deals right now. Highly reccoment it. Or go to Roatan, Belize or Cozumel.

Sorry the 2 single tank boat dives are for certified divers, not nondivers. My bad. 1 shallow dive a day for resort certed divers.

drewfish, I'll check out the Sandals in St Lucia for sure.

I checked out some of the other places mentioned above. They are EXTREMELY nice but unfortunately I will not be able to afford $500 to $800 per night for the room only. :( Oh well.

I am finally plugging away at finding the information I want. So far, I'm really liking the Turks and Caicos Islands. Small, intimate, just starting to develop but not overdeveloped and supposedly it is ranked very high for its diving. Anyone been to TCI? Any suggestions there?

i'm planning a honeymoon also, and breezes curacao looks good (not sure yet). i hear good things about the diving, and the wifey wants all inclusive food and drinks. she doesnt dive, never will, so im on my own for that

You mentioned Cabo. The diving in Cabo is just ok, not great vis, lots of fish but not much for coral. The chance of seeing the big stuff keeps me going back. There are good resorts that aren't really expensive availble in Cabo.
The Riviera Maya on the east coast of Mexico is another thought. They have good diving, good vis, lots of types of fish and great coral especially if you hit Coz. The Mayan ruins are incredible, the water is usually warm, they have all kinds of activities availble or nothing at all. There are really expensive all-inclusive options there or medium priced resorts down to inexpensive places to stay. You might consider checking out tripadvisor.com once you know where you want to go. Have fun planning.

A LOT of my friends went to Sandals and loved it. They say they wouldn't do it any other way. I have always had the (uneducated) opinion that Sandals and other similar all inclusive were cheesy and really commercial. On the other hand, my friends say that they are very nice, not too expensive, and you just don't have to worry about a thing. You go and relax and you don't feel trapped or obligated to stay on the property.

Part of me wants some crazy unique experience where everything is planned by me and the other part of me wants to just go and relax and not think about anything at all.

I have a honeymoon booked for 10 days in November @ Staniel Key Yacht Club, Great Exuma Bahamas.

If you think Sandals is cheesy, then something like this might be for you. This is the type place where you can fish, snorkel, dive, & booze on your own schedule. You are provided with your own personal skiff to explore the islands as you please. Check it out very pristine.

Only complication is a charter or private flight is required. The owner has his own charter service Watermakers Air, that flies daily round trip from Ft. Lauderdale Exec.

I was in Cabo a few months ago. Fantastic place, but not honeymoon material.
