Got a question

I've got this brown type algae on top of the sand in only the front of my tank. When the lights come on in the morning the algae is very minimal, however mid-day it becomes more prominent. By the time the lights go out it's practically non-existant. It gets a little stringy in the afternoon. It doesn't apear to be spreading on the rock structures. I've been told it could be dino's or diatoms. I currently running UV, and GFO. However, I can't totally eradicate the problem. I'm dripping Kalk to keep my pH up, however as hard as I've tried I can't get my pH above 8.25. Any suggestions on what this might be and how to get rid of it before it becomes a major problem?

When you drip Kalk phosphates will precipitate out of the water but not out of the system. It will end up on the bottom in your sandbed so if you will do a water change and vacuum the algae off the bottom you will take along some of that phosphate. Give that a try and it may take a few times to work but the water changes will also help dillute some of the excess nutrients
