I posted in another forum but no reply so ill try here, I am running a phosban reactor with phosban media in my sump, thing is i t keeps turning gray after a week or two,

I have a hanna po4 photometer and every time it turns gray my readings go fro 0.02 to 0.05 ,so i guess it stops working after it turns gray,

so im thinking its precipitation, but my CA.440-ALK-10-11--MG.1300 are all within range,

my ca reactor drip -and my kalk drip are also in the sump but im dripping into a high flow area in my 4 foot sump ,and the phosban reactor pump is on the other end of the sump,

any thoughts im going through phosban like crazy and its getting expensive, thanks

Maybe the phosban is acting as a medium for bacteria to colonize on? (bacteria bloom of a single species I mean)

IMO that stuff needs to be removed after one or two days. I do not like leaving it in the tank that long because it leaches back into the water. If you are wanting to run it longer you should try using GFO.

Edit: Sorry I misread and thought you said PhosGuard. I am not sure why that would turn grey.

I had the same problem......After moving the reactors "feed" small pump away from the outflow of my calcium reactor the problem when away. I did not think that was the problem because the pump was about two feet away but was on it path so now I get the incoming water from the tank overflow.

thanks for the replys

Im thinking your right i just moved my Phos, reactor feed pump out of my sump and i will see in a couple weeks if thats the cause ,but im sure thats what it is ,thanks

Also try keeping your calcium about 380/400ppm that will help, if the calcium gets over 450 the GFO will start to bind.
