Gray PVC at Lowes

So is the Gray PVC at Lowes safe, it is in a separate section than the regular PVC, I think it is aimed more at electrical but I'm not sure...

I want to hide the returns as best as possible inside my new zeroedge tank... And I think 1" dark gray or black PVC would help hide it....
 
Just so you know, that the gray PVC will not work with regular PVC fittings. You will have to use the gray ones, which I think are only threaded...
 
No, they are actually a bit smaller than regular PVC (white) that you will find at Lowes/Home Depot...

that's what the pvc glue does it fuses it
 
josh check at aquatic eco. and i think dugg on here knows where to get black pvc online. i called you back. give me a call when ever

this is not true,all sch 40(white)and sch 80(dark gray)fittings and pipe are able to be interchanged.i believe the grey pipe the original poster was referring to is pvc conduit pipe,it is a light gray color and i believe its fittings are different than the sch40-80 stuff.
 
i have the conduit pvc and in the 1/2" size the white and gray fit. but if i'm not mistaken it will be harder to find the gray sch80 pvc parts verses the standard white. if all you want to use it for is to hide the pvc in the zero edge tank than aquatic eco sells marine expoxy that you can get in black, gray, red, green, blue
 
I used schedule 80 nipples inside my bulkheads cause I wanted the threading end sticking out... the only thing is there is an external rip which had to be trimmed off, but other than that it worked great. Also the inside diameter is a bit smaller but it wasn't enough for me to be concerned.
 
I was referring to the gray pipe they sale in their plumbing section. That pipe doesn't fit standard PVC fittings. It seems to be a slight bit smaller in diameter.
 
I used the gray stuff from Lowes to plumb my deltec, I wanted to match what it came with. The threaded fittings did fit the regular PVC, however when I cut the pipe to glue a slip fitting it didn't fit, that's when I noticed it was slightly smaller.
 
Gray PVC fittings are sch 80
Gray PVC pipe is for electrical work
White PVC pipe is used for interior plumbing, water or sewer, and irrigation (sch 20 now pressure, sch 40 normal pressure, sch 80 high pressure)
Blue PVC is municipal water
Green PVC is municipal sewer
Purple (fuscia) PVC is municipal reclaimed water

Electrical PVC is a different diameter is not designed for fluid pressures. Fine for gravity fed drains lines, but I would not use it for pressure situations (pumps).

Thus endeth the civil engineering lesson.
 
That's right I remember it saying that it's only good for low pressure... But I used mine on my skimmer with a small aquabee pump, I don't think it will exceed the maximum pressure for the pipe...
 
the sch 8i0 pvc in the electrical is different from the sch 80 in the plumbling. The electrical uses screw type thread and will screw all the way done and the plumbing sch 80 has pipe thread is near impossible to screw all the way in. Now as far as pressure ratings go even if it is low pressure I imagine it is still high enough.
