Gray PVC...safe for aquarium?

Hey guys...I tried searching but it was disabled due to the server load, so if this has been asked before, I apologize in advance... ;) I also googled, but to no avail.

I'm working on a closed loop with a Mag7 pump and SCWD (based on Melev's design). I wanted to make the intake out of gray pvc as it will be in the aquarium and it will blend in better with the black background than the white pvc. There is a sticker on the gray pvc that reads "For outdoor use only", but the same sticker clearly says that it is pvc. Does anyone know if this is safe to put in the aquarium? I got it in the section of HD where they carry the lawn sprinkler parts.

Thanks in advance. I want to make sure it will be okay before I proceed to drill eleventy-billion holes in the thing... :D

I think as long as it says SCH80 on it then you are fine. I heard that the black stuff has some oils in it that will leach out. Id say take a pciture of it and post it to be sure.

Thanks for the reply. We just moved and I haven't found the USB cable for my camera yet, so I can't post a pic. But that gave me the idea to check Home Depot's website for a pic, and I found the following:

http://www.homedepot.com/cmc_upload/HDUS/EN_US/asset/images/eplus/046878380912_4.jpg

The piece I have is just like this one, except mine is 3/4" x 12" (the picture on the website is obviously not 12", but otherwise it looks the same). The website specifically reads "Molded gray schedule 80 PVC construction".

Does that mean it's okay?

Yep, you are good to go with that. I just wanted tp make sure it wasnt the black drainage grade stuff.. thats really NOT good for the aquarium.

What about the clear PVC pipes, some are clear and some are clear but tinted gray. Does the same rule apply to them? They sell them at Marine Depot so I'm sure they're fine. But anyone no of anything different?

As long as it says PVC it should be good to go. Its the stuff that isnt drinking water safe that you have to stay away from. And another good rule of thumb is if it says for drainage, look some more.!
