So I was at one of my local LFS......scouring over the new slection of corals trying to find a nice piece. The kid working has been at this store for about 2 years. I pointed to a large rock covered in zoo,s of multiple colors.....it was probably a 2 pound rock with about 200+ polyps. I asked him how much....he responded I dont know what that is lets say 40 bucks......

I said you have been here 2 years and dont know what a zoo covered rock is....we both laughed he thought I pointed at the piece next to it....he said the rock was 75...

Heres where it gets fun (for me)

The piece he pointed at that he wasnt familiar with (that I promptly bought) for $40 bucks....

A 17 headed neon green stalked DUNCAN with beautiful pink tips...(I see this duncan selling for $30 a head online)

I tried to explain my excitement to my wife when I got home but.... she doesnt even think theres a coral worth 40 bucks....lol

Just thought I would share with people that can appreciate a good find...

LOL god bless ignorant LFS's sometimes! Don't worry though they'll get you back when you have to pay triple the price of something you can buy online because you have an emergency.

I will get pics ASAP....Probably by dinner time.....shes purrrrty....

Ya I didnt know wether to feel guilty or not....a real moral dilemma....*wink*

I actually used ryandlf's logic to wipe away any guilt I did have.....

The thing is this kid has abou 5 years in the hobby...he just transferred to this store...he used to manage a petland fish room

1st time Ive posted pics...hope I did this right....

While there is a part of me that thinks you ought not have done that ;) and you need to repent, lol, there is another part of me that says "that's what they get for not putting PRICES ON THE TANKS!!!".

Not having things marked w/prices is one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm am a tight-budget dude.... and corals are something that you never know if something will be $10 or $80 per polyp... colony... rock... clump... etc...

Either way, heckuva deal. I got excited last weekend when I bought a white tuxedo urchin for $10. I'm apparently not hard to please.

And yes, no pics = it didn't happen ;)

First off, nice duncans. As for the "moral dilemma" you didn't put a gun to anyone's head. I wouldn't feel guilty about getting a good deal on something. JMO

Sorry man, we posted at the exact same time....

Very cool colony!!!!!

Awesome deal! Don't think I've seen 2 foxfaces in a tank that size together. One of my fave fish, tank looks good.

I had a similar experience at CG Reef on Long Island. After passing up duncans at other LFS, I stopped at CG. They had two long stalked multi headed duncans at 8 bucks a head. I happily handed over $48 bucks for a six inch high six headed duncan with dozens of tiny little baby heads around their bases. Six months later my eight heads are now 30 assorted size heads. I broke off a branch to trade. A month later, the broken stalk has healed over and grown a new head at the tip!

Is that a tube anemone on the right side of the tank? How do you like it/have any problems with it? Also what type of cowfish/boxfish is that and can you tell me more about it (how long you have had it etc.) Also with that guy and the trigger I assume you do not have any crustaceans...?

Off topic but it is nice to see people even considering the "moral dilemma". I have always operated that if someone lists a price then I have no moral problems if it is far below market value.

That said I will clearly point out at the register that the XYZ is per unit when the poor checkout person rings it up as a "single unit" ( = 1/8th the price it SHOULD BE). Maybe this is just me, but helps me sleep at night so that is priceless.

Like software / music piracy. Just because YOU CAN steal it.... doesnt make it right.

Sorry for thread hijack and now stepping off soapbox.

Young reefer 06,

Yes thats a tube anemone, and I love it. He expands to about 9 or 10 inches at night. No problems at all My mandarin bumped it once and went bannanas so I know he has a mighty sting...I bruhshed and didnt feel anything. Personally I feel they get a worse rap than they should.

At any given time I can find 15 to 20 hermits.....and about 10 snails....at night I have 4 or 5 huge turbos that come out to play...

The (yellow box) cowfish has been in my tank 9 months and is very peaceful...kind of stupid but peaceful. He doesnt mess with any of my clean up crew yet...hes about 5 inches long. The trigger is only about 3 inches long and hasnt touched a hermit or snail (yet)

ps...the cow fish likes to nio my arm when I am working in the tank...hes made me bleed twice...

Mr Ryan T

When I introduced the 2nd foxface he was about 2 inches longer than the one in there....the smaller went bonkers at first (about an hour) Then it was just mild chasing.....I shut the lights off it was still day time so I threw a blanket over the tank...on day 2 there was only nipping if the big one roamed near him....one week later they follow eachother around like a pair of mated clowns.....

No problem for the high jack indyman......I know what you mean.

Thats happened to me a few times with the mis charging and me having to tell them about it and it ends up costing more,,

I could never knowingly walk out of 3 of my local stores with something like that on my mond.....as most of us im sure I have gotten to know all the owners all to well.....

That being said...if I ask for a price they give me a price and I pay the price, Im okay with that.....

Typically in this hobby at first before we spend our 401ks at the stores and they recognize us we get no discounts and pay 3 times to much for everything.....
