Green Candy Cane polyp issue

Hi all,

I just got in from work and noticed that one of the polyps on my green candy cane looks like it is 'wasting away'. I have taken a photo but the quality isnt that great as I only have my blue LED light on:

My tank has been up and running for around 10 months. Water stats are below:

65 gallon tank with 4 T5 and 1 blue LED strip.
Water temp: 79
PH: 8.3
Alkalinity: 8
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 2
Ammonia: 0
Calcium: 500
Mag: 1400

I do have a green emerald crab but have never seen him anywhere near the candy cane. I have also spotted two small hitchhiker crabs; light brown colouration with a dark brown mark in the middle of its shell. And what appear to be a black crab. I have never been able to ID them or catch them though :(

Do you think something is eating it or does it look like some form of disease?

Thanks in advance all.
Jon

Yeah sometimes there's no reason for things like that. Possibly something damaged that head. Watch the nearby ones, if they all start looking funky then you can worry, but just one head like that does happen too. I hate when it happens right in the center of the colony too! Best of luck man, keep us posted

I agree with SaltyWalter on this one ! Could have been banged against the tank during removal. I purchased a frogspawn or hammer once that the LFS employee dropped on the floor and of course it died. I WILL never buy a coral that I HAVE SEEN DROPPED ONTO THE FLOOR AGAIN.
