green hair algea

I have some green hair algea growing around one of the heads of my branching torch. What would be the best way of removing without hurting the coral before it gets out of hand?

Anybody have any other ideas? I don't want to risk a blenny if he plans on make a snack out of my corals.

what skimmer do you use? how often do you feed? i think hair algae has a harder time growing at higher salinitys.

might want to look into phosphate removers and purigen. purigen removes nitrate nitrite and ammonia.

I have an EV-180 skimmer, feed lightly twice a day. and just added purigen about 5 days ago. I am just worried about the algae bothering the torch. It still expands fully like always but the algae seems to be growing around the head right at the edge where the flesh of the coral ends. Should I just leave it be or is the any way to remove it without hurting the coral any?

Hermits won't eat algae.
I would try to use a small toothbrush to brush it away from the coral.

Pat

That is funny my hermits went to town on the algae in my tank as soon as they hit the live rock.

I most definitely agree with CeeGee. I had a few small patches of hair algea in my tank. I bought a few more hermits to help combat and in a couple of days...no more hair algea. Hermits will eat just about any algea if they're hungry enough.

Thumbs up!
