Green Star Polyps Not Opening

55gallonreefer

Hey I have a Green Star Polyps Colony and I had it for about a year now, it was doing great, about 200 stars on this piece, but all of a sudden the stars don't come out for about a week now.

I have a 55 gallon reef with 4 vho's 2 50/50 and 2 actinic's.
turbo floater protein skimmer, in the refuigium
2 power heads
500 gph return pump.
temp is 76 degrees.
salinity is a little high, 1.027 ish
but the nitrate, nitrite, calcuim, ph all on point.

I do need to replace the vho bulbs about 3 to 4 months overdue, would this affect the polyps? Do you know if this is normal for polyps to stop coming out?

I attached a picture of the tank, the polys are in the middle, this is when they were out and doing good.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've had that happen before. After a week or so they slowly started coming out again and now are a PIA.

A lot of the time, accumulated detritus will do this. Do a little "basting". If you "wash away" quite a bit of detritus, this may be the case.

A water change usually brings mine back out. I've never figured it out......some GSP's really seem finicky.

I have read that poor water conditions will do that to star polyps. I will sometimes use this as an indicator that something has happened either to the water quality or the lights in the tank.
