Green Star Polyps

I am starting to understand why people really do not like green star polyps. I have a fairly large rock that had a big bunch of xenia growing on it. Well next to it was a little rock with some GSP on it. Needless to say the GSP have overtaken the rock and have started to grow over top of the xenia. Will the GSP growing over the Xenia cause any problems to the water chemistry? It is killing off the Xenia and I did not know if that could create any problems. If anyone wants a large rock near 10 pounds loaded with GSP and Xenia that is starting to be taken over let me know. We can work out some kind of good deal. The rock also has a rock urchin living in it. So you get a large rock with GSP, Xenia and a rock urchin. My main concern is if the Xernia will cause any harm to the tank if it keeps being taken over by the GSP's. THANKS for any help BILL

I also have gsp and for now its the only coral in the tank and I'm noticeing it starting to pop up all over ( daily ). So this kinda goes along with the original post my question is how to keep it under control?

RBU1, try lifting a small patch of GSPââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s mat and slowly pull it off the rock. Or try this, which sometimes works better:

1. irritate the GSPs so their polyps are closed
2. with a blade or a knife lift about a 1/4" of its edge
3. take a turkey baster and force water under the edge

The other method I've seen people do is ice - take a cube of ice and rub it on GSP's surface. Just make sure you run carbon for the next few days (if you don't normally run it).

dlish89, the only way to control GSP from spreading is to keep it on a solitary rock/rubble that does not come in contact with anything except sand.

Thanks for the advise, but now I know I'm in trouble. I started with 2 little colonies and they are both on the left side of the tank. Within about 1 - 2 weeks I have 3 more colonies starting on the opposite end of the tank and the reason I know I'm in trouble is one of the new colonies is starting on a little rock that is surrounded by sand. people were right when they called these weeds.
