Green star polyps

I have a question about some green star polyps that I just bought from my LFS.. I'm new to corals and trusted what the sales lady told me when she sold me my gsp..she said I need to tie it to a rock so it can form to the rock.....but my issue is I think she may have sold me a piece that's not healthy. I've attached a picture so you can see. Do they normally look like this when they're new and can I trim off all the hanging parts or should it be left alone? Any tips would be great! Thanks

Hard to tell from your photo. Is it upside down and the green is on the bottom?

You can also use gel crazy glue to secure them to a rock. They look like that when they are stressed or at night. Hopefully they will acclimate soon to your tank.

Thanks for replying , I really appreciate it ! I do have some aquarium safe adhesive here that I might use, it sounds like a better plan than tying it down, so thanks for that tip Carrots ��..they're not upside down, it just looks like that because it was pulled off a rock at the store and it's kinda stretched and twisted in spots. Hopefully it's temporary ��

it looks fine. it will attach to the rock eventually. it like decent flow. gsp can grow fast and cover everything.

You can use a rubber band to secure it to the rock so it doesn't float away. I have also glued them down with gel glue.

I have tied them down before and once they adhered just snipped off the line and all was good to go. Now I would probably just use some glue in a small spot and it will adhere itself soon enough.

Also, yes, they can look like that when closed up.

It may take a couple of days for them to open completely after being cut or torn but they'll bounce back. In the mean time, like the other folks said, you can glue it to the rock and just let it rest.
