Green Toadstool Splitting?

So this toadstool I've had for about 3 months has always looked great but looked a little small, I though. Recently the coral shriveled up and I began to worry a bit. I really freaked out when pieces started to peal off. It never changed color or looked like it was dying so I didn't panic and remove it. I've never seen this before with a leather coral and thought I should share. Here's some pictures.
