Group order Cyclop-eez? Ron???

A good while back I missed out on a group buy on cyclop-eez. I wasn't sure if there were other food items that could be bought in bulk. I am interested in stocking up on "food items". I am hoping there are others who would like to do it. Maybe if we "feel the water" now we could place the order and everyone could pick up their food at our next meeting!!!

I don't know who took care of the order before but, I would like to PayPal up front so not to burden anyone. We could order a little extra to be given away as door prizes. EVERYONE has to feed their animals so this would be something everyone could use!

We are short in the donation department for the meeting. Everyone likes winning prizes. There are no fees, no dues and no revenue! We are VERY LUCKY to have the businesss support us. We all need to donate a LITTLE for the benefit of all. We all said we wanted our meetings to grow. We need to step up to the plate in helping our meetings to be bigger and better! Our goal is to grow in caring for our animals using our shared knowledge and invite new people to embarace in our :
"Love of the Corals". ...which by the way is our theme for our up coming meeting! We're gonna have a Valentine's Celebration!

We plan on having a food/beverage table like last month with a Valentine's theme! The food was great and it went quick! I plan on bringing a cake and the paper goods supplies. I'll have Ryan bring the killer brownies.

We need: 1). ice for drinks (please bring it in a cooler)
2). drinks-your choice pop, tea whatever you want to bring!
3). chips & dip or vegetable & dip.
4). COOKIES - someone has to make cookies
Whatever ever you want to bring I assure you it will not go to waste!!! (I won't mention any names, but I heard there was food tasting critic among us scouting for tasty recipes to be entered in a famous magazine competing for prize money!) Maybe you should make one of your old family recipes! Please let me know what you intend to bring so I don't ask someone else. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for drawing you in with the thread title! SNEAKY!!! At our next meeting we need to discuss ways to donate our time/money to grow our club. I think the cyclop-eez idea and donating (we are a non-profit) $3-$5 extra to Ron, to purchase extra food as a door prize is a easy way for all of us to contribute. Ron, if this is too much to ask on such a short notice I understand! This is a little idea, to get a little bit of money, in a little bit of time, for our great club! Start brain storming! We want your suggestions! Please write your ideas on paper so we can get to work on putting them into action! We will be collecting your input at the next meeting! thanks to all for listening and playing your part! :)

That was sneaky lol

Well we are non-profit i.e. We receive no pay for our actions. We are legally not a true "non-profit" however because of what I told you (Igo) in that briefing.

However that does not mean we can not take money, we cant take true "donations" as a club but we can as a group. It's the same as when someone is having a huge party and Billy Bob takes up a donation from the party goers to pick up a keg or assigns Jim Bo to go get one. There is no treasury nor need for one as the supplies are all paid for in advance down to the cent. There is no legal reason that I can think of that says we can not do this as a group in a party atmosphere and that's what the CVRC Swaps really are like, minus the booze and loud music of course.

This is why I suggested choosing a central individual for the group that would be responsible and trustworthy to act as the buyer for the group. There would be no excess monies to worry about "what it should get spent on" We need no surplus only enough to pay for the meets. However there was never a serious response to that idea.

I'd certainly be up for going in on a cyclop-eez order as I'm almost out and will need to get more soon.

Doesn't the lfs carry Cyclop-eez. I believe they actually recieved their first shipment sometime last year and it is almost always in stock. Plus the price is reasonable.

When we did the group order last year no one had it around here. I know at least one LFS carries it now.
Matter of fact when Dwight dropped off my order we all drove up to Fuji's grand opening...lo and behold there was cyclop-eez frozen, freeze dried and wafer

There is a new product out that is like cyclopeeze but has more HUFAs and DHA. I cannot remember the name of the stuff but it sounds like it is really good. Maybe someone else on here has heard about it and can chime in. I know there were a few ppl on the SPS forum using it. I think it is still some form of brine.

Myself, I do not use very much of these types of products. I would rather make my own food. I think my tank responds better to a nice variety.

A few years back, When the CVRC was just getting started, Our local fish/coral Guru (yeah Ron that's you) had this recipe for making your own food.

Well I prefer it and so do my corals. (The fish even like the flakes that are left over) anyways I like that recipe and just add a little cyclopeeze to the mix.

It works great and all my corals do very well with it.

Are you sure that recipe came from Ron?;)

Actually that recipe came from Eric Borneman which I believe I have said many times in the past. In his Book "Aquarium Corals..." This is my favorite coral book to date and most of what I have learned about coral care and needs came from it. Phil makes his own mix and has been for years, in fact I asked him to demo it at some of our first meets after he told me he was using a similar mix. We all add or subtract from the basic recipe I know Phil used to use lots of algae in his, I cut back on it to avoid over nutrient problems. Borneman uses vitamin capsuls in his but I never went that far. Today I use cyclop-eez and mysis in my coral tanks mainly. Each tank has it's own particular needs as far as feedings go. I think flow and light are far more important to worry about.

If you really want to have some fun, grow some phyto. This stuff is the best thing you can feed the tank IMO. However, be ready to do more frequent water changes.

Btw, I have been making my mix long before I ever read Borneman's book. But his recipe is very similar to what I make now. I have revised the recipe numerous times over the last couple years. My new recipe has much more HUFAs and DHA in it. Which I believe is a very essential part of a living reef's nutritional needs.

I also do not think feeding coral is all that important, with exception to LPS. I know LPS can grow much faster with direct feeding. I have seen the results.

I believe in "feed your fish and let them (poop) feed the corals" along w/ the leftover food and juices from the foods.

In no way did I want to cut into the profits of the lfs. I already discussed my idea with a lfs in Charleston (no names needed). He was open to the suggestion (wasn't slighted) and was glad we were trying to generate funds to better the group meeting. The suggestion was put out for 2 reasons:
One, to get the group together as a group to generate a little income to purchase PRIZES for our next meeting which is less than 18 days away. We are short on prizes and donations. A little preplanning of the meeting makes it bigger and better for all involved. A good presentation gets people excited and more involved.....especially if your are a newbi and walk through the door and see FREE STUFF. It makes people want to come back!

2nd..I am almost out of cyclopeez and can not get it here in my area. I have to drive 45min to 1hr or on-line order. I make my fish soup using the recipe Phil and Ron gave me last year. Ron gave it to me verbally and I wrote it down at Phil's! I like to target feed. I like to have it ready and accesible to feed on a regular basis.

So, back to the topic! I am still in for cyclop-eeze if there is enough interest! What suggestions do you have in raising money from our members to buy small universal items that we all can use. It is hard to ask people over the internet to donate for a future event, in this case I believe people would help and donate if they knew there was a need! Great meetings don't just happen! They are planned ahead and it takes more than just a couple of people doing the work. That was not said to be mean but, we can not depend on Ron to do all the work! There are a lot of things available to us to do as a group. Most of us have children and we are family oriented. At the last meeting we discussed wanting more out of our club. Many said they would pitchin on anything needed. Last summer someone brought up doing a group tour to the Columbus aquarium. I would love to do that. Now would be a great time to organize that since most families aren't wrapped up in sports as heavily this time of year.
Let's get some money to Ron (or someone he appoints) so he can buy us something COOL! Maybe even something rare!!! Come on guys...you could be the lucky winner! 2 or 3 dollars each adds up quickly!

Thanks for your time and effort! Don't make me put on my cheerleader outfit! (It has not fit in years so don't be afraid). Also, please don't forget the needs of the food/beverage table.
Happy Reefing

Well that all sounds good except, I don't want any part of the money or buying, I have enough to do now and still forget important things. I can order prizes and get them far cheaper than anyone else here except Jim, it makes no difference to me who you choose as the money holder/buyer but I wont pick any one person, that will be a group choice. I can tell you that all prizes will be at or near cost so it would be illogical to buy them anywhere else IMO.

If you still want to give away a few cool prizes your last chance is this week.
Im making a Champion Order later this week and for about $100 I can get a few nice door prizes for us.

So volunteers step forward and we will see who the group wants as there designated buyer.
